Tal Afar removes checkpoints in a sign of improving security

Officials in Nineveh’s Tel Afar district will remove all internal checkpoints within the town, maintaining periphery control points, in a sign of improving security in the area.

This measure aims to facilitate traffic and ease the burden on local residents, given the current security stability in the town.

A security source, speaking on condition of anonymity, told 964:
“Four checkpoints have already been removed, and now the city center is free from any internal checkpoints. The emergency and local police patrols are now assigned to those checkpoints, deployed on roads and streets, and ready to respond to any emergencies.”

Tel Afar resident Ahmed Mohammed commented: “Tel Afar is enjoying security, and the removal of internal checkpoints enhances citizens’ trust in the security forces, encouraging them to provide more support, cooperation, and report any suspicious cases.”
