BAGHDAD, October 2 — Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shiaa’ Al-Sudani stated on Monday that the Grand Faw Port and the Development Road Project cannot be separated, emphasizing that both projects represent a single system that is crucial for the future of Iraq’s economy.
A statement from Al-Sudani’s office read:
Prime Minister Mohammed Shiaa’ Al-Sudani chaired the fourth meeting of the High-Level Committee for the Implementation of the Development Road Project and the Grand Faw Port on Monday morning. During the meeting, they discussed the vision presented by the Ministry of Oil and the General Company for Iraqi Ports for the management and operation of the Grand Faw Port.
Al-Sudani stressed during the meeting that it is impossible to consider the Grand Faw Port project separately from the Development Road Project in all its details. He emphasized that both projects represent a single system that constitutes a future cornerstone of the Iraqi economy.
He also pointed out that any agreement or vision for the operation of the Grand Faw Port, once completed, must take into account the requirements of operating the Development Road, emphasizing the importance of adhering to the pre-defined timelines and the planned details for the major and secondary projects.
The meeting included discussions and observations regarding the optimal management approach for the port presented by the Ministry of Transportation, which were endorsed by the High-Level Committee for the project’s implementation and approved for adoption.
