Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani to visit Kurdistan Region tomorrow

NEWSROOM – Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani is set to visit the Kurdistan Region on Wednesday to congratulate the winning parties in the recent parliamentary elections and discuss challenges between the federal and regional governments. The visit will include stops in Erbil and Sulaymaniyah, according to Kurdistan Democratic Party lawmaker Ikhlas Al-Dulaimi.

“Al-Sudani will visit the Kurdistan Region tomorrow to meet with the regional government and discuss the issues and challenges facing both governments, with a focus on moving forward to find solutions to the obstacles,” Al-Dulaimi told the Iraqi News Agency.

The trip will also serve as an opportunity for Al-Sudani to personally congratulate the victorious Kurdish parties and engage in talks about forming the next regional government.

The sixth Kurdistan parliamentary election, held on Oct.20 under the oversight of Iraq’s Independent High Electoral Commission, saw the KDP secure 39 seats, the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan win 23, and the New Generation Movement take 17.

Following the elections, Al-Sudani extended congratulations to the people of the Kurdistan Region. “We hope the remaining steps for forming the new government of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq will be completed soon, to continue the path of development, cooperation, and stability in service of the people of the region,” he said in a statement.
