Iraqi and Kurdish leaders congratulate Trump on election victory

ERBIL — Iraqi President Abdullatif Jamal Rashid, Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani, and Kurdistan Regional Government Prime Minister Masrour Barzani extended their congratulations to Donald Trump on his victory in the U.S. presidential election.

President Rashid, in a post on X, formerly Twitter, expressed his hopes for strengthened regional stability under the new U.S. administration. “I extend my congratulations to President Donald Trump on his election victory,” Rashid wrote. “I am hopeful that the new American administration will foster much-needed stability and constructive dialogue in the region.”

Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani also congratulated Trump and running mate JD Vance, emphasizing the importance of continued collaboration. “I extend my warmest congratulations to President Donald Trump and Vice President-Elect JD Vance on their election victory,” he stated. Barzani highlighted his intention to further deepen ties between the Kurdistan Region, Iraq, and the United States.

KRG Prime Minister Masrour Barzani echoed similar sentiments in his message to Trump. “Congratulations Donald Trump on your re-election as the President of the United States,” he wrote on X. Barzani reiterated his commitment to working closely with the U.S. administration to promote peace and stability in the region, saying, “I look forward to deepening the partnership between the Kurdistan Region and the United States and working together to advance peace and stability in the region.”

Later in the day, Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani issued his own congratulations to Trump, saying his government wishes to boost relations with the U.S.A.

“Iraq reaffirms its steadfast commitment to strengthening bilateral relations with the United States, grounded in mutual respect and shared interests. We look forward to this new phase as an opportunity to deepen cooperation across various sectors, contributing to sustainable development, and benefiting both our nations.”

PUK President Bafel Talabani also chimed in: “Congratulations Donald Trump on your historic re-election. The Kurdistan Region and USA have a strong bond rooted in shared values of commitment to stability and peace in the world. We look forward to continuing and strengthening our partnership to promote security and prosperity.”
