Family dispute in Hajiawa escalates to deadly clash, one killed and five injured

SULAYMANIYAH — A violent altercation involving knives and gunfire erupted between two families in Hajiawa, Sulaymaniyah governorate’s Raparin independent administration, resulting in the death of one man and injuries to five others, according to Raparin Police on Saturday. Twelve suspects have been detained in connection with the incident.

The clash occurred Friday night, leaving a 33-year-old Hajiawa resident dead from stab wounds, police confirmed. Five others sustained injuries and are under treatment at Ranya’s General Hospital.

Witnesses report the fight was triggered by a social dispute between the two related families. Following an autopsy at Ranya’s forensic center, the victim’s body was released to his family.

All 12 suspects face charges under Article 406 of the Iraqi Penal Code, which deals with murder, as investigations are underway.
