Al-Maliki meets Jordanian ambassador to discuss bilateral ties and regional issues

BAGHDAD — Head of the State of Law Coalition, Nouri Al-Maliki, met on Wednesday with Jordan’s newly appointed ambassador to Iraq, Maher Salem Al-Tarawneh, to discuss bilateral relations and regional developments, including the ongoing conflicts in Lebanon and Palestine, according to a statement from Al-Maliki’s office.

Head of the State of Law Coalition, Mr. Nouri al-Maliki, received the new Ambassador of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan to Iraq, Dr. Maher Salem Al-Tarawneh, at his office today.

At the beginning of the meeting, Mr. Nouri Al-Maliki welcomed Ambassador Al-Tarawneh and wished him success in his new role as his country’s ambassador to Baghdad. Ambassador Al-Tarawneh conveyed the greetings of King Abdullah II to the head of the State of Law Coalition. The two also discussed regional and international developments, including the Zionist aggression on Lebanon and Palestine.

Mr. Al-Maliki affirmed that Iraq maintains strong ties with Jordan in various fields and called for strengthening and developing these relations in a way that serves the interests of both brotherly peoples. He reiterated Iraq’s firm stance in supporting the oppressed peoples of Palestine and Lebanon, holding the international community responsible for the horrific crimes being committed by the occupying Zionist entity against the two brotherly peoples. He emphasized the importance of the role of Arab political forces and the Arab and Muslim public stance in confronting Zionist arrogance, urging governments to support the resistance forces in Palestine, Lebanon, Yemen, Iraq, and Iran.

Mr. Nouri al-Maliki also stressed Iraq’s commitment to delivering humanitarian aid to Lebanon, given the difficult circumstances faced by the Lebanese people.

For his part, the Jordanian Ambassador emphasized the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan’s commitment to enhancing cooperation with Iraq in various fields, reflecting the deep historical ties between the two countries. He expressed his appreciation for Iraq’s efforts in supporting Arab causes, especially amid the challenges facing the region, and confirmed Jordan’s readiness to strengthen joint coordination in ways that serve mutual interests and contribute to regional stability.
