Amarah unveils new 3-kilometer corniche along Al-Mashrah River, boosting recreational spaces

MAYSAN – The Amarah Municipality has completed a three-kilometer corniche along the Al-Mashrah River, marking the first project of its kind in the Al-Majidiya and Al-Dubaysat neighborhoods since the area’s establishment in the 1930s.

The corniche features a paved walkway, fountains, green spaces, and seating, with no barriers separating it from the surrounding streets, creating a seamless, scenic space for residents. “The Al-Majidiya and Al-Dubaysat corniche is a beautiful green space along the Al-Mashrah River, spanning 3 kilometers,” Raed Shamil, Mayor of Amarah, told 964media. “It includes waterfalls, green areas, and light posts to enhance the beauty of the area.”

Ali Mazher, Director of the Horticulture Department at Maysan Municipality, noted that designs were approved last year and the project is near completion. “No walls were placed between the corniche and the streets, ensuring it serves as a recreational space for Maysan families,” Mazher said.

Local residents have praised the development for transforming the neighborhood. “This is the first time our area has looked this beautiful, especially with the way the corniche has changed the view of the river and the nearby street,” said Ali Star, a resident of Al-Majidiya. He also urged authorities to increase security after vandals damaged street lights in recent months.

Asma Hamid, another resident, shared the positive impact on her family. “The best thing about this corniche is that my children now enjoy walking here, and they no longer have to go far. My eldest son even spends much of his study time here, as it’s peaceful and suitable for studying,” she told 964media.
