Iraqi armed factions threaten to target US forces if Iran attacked
BAGHDAD – Iran-aligned Iraqi armed factions warned Tuesday that “all American bases and interests in Iraq and the region will be targets” if there is an attack on Iran, following Tehran’s missile strike on Israel.
The Coordination Committee of the Iraqi Resistance said, “If the Americans intervene in any hostile action against the Islamic Republic [of Iran] or if the Zionist enemy uses Iraqi airspace to carry out any bombing operations on its territory, all U.S. bases and interests in Iraq and the region will be targets for us.”
It comes after Iran launched waves of attacks on Israel in retaliation for the killing of Hassan Nasrallah.
Earlier this evening, Iraq’s transportation ministry ordered the closure of its airspace for safety reasons on Tuesday after Iran launched missiles at Israel, the official Iraqi News Agency said.
The report said the closure was “to maintain the safety of aerial navigation”, with the ministry also ordering a “temporary halt to air traffic at all Iraqi airports”.
