Body of former Erbil FC star Fayzullah Osman to be repatriated from Germany

ERBIL — The Erbil Governorate announced on Tuesday that the body of Fayzullah Osman, a former player for Erbil Football Club, will be repatriated from Germany following directives from the Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government. Known affectionately as “Captain Fayzo,” Osman passed away on Monday in Germany after a prolonged illness. He had lived in Europe for the past 28 years.

Osman was not only a prominent figure in Kurdish football but also the son of “Khaje Bawe,” the first female martyr of the Kurdish 1991 uprising. His mother was a noted resistance figure who, on March 11, 1991, led a group of armed youths in Erbil’s uprising against Baathist rule. Despite being wounded by Iraqi government security forces, she continued her advance and was ultimately killed. She is buried in the Sheikh Ahmad cemetery.

Throughout his career, Osman played for several teams, including Brayati, Aso, and Mahabad, in addition to his tenure with Erbil FC. He died at the age of 55 in a German hospital due to severe complications from his illness.
