Former MP wife shot from US Embassey in Baghdad
BAGHDAD — Former MP Abdul Amir Al-Ghazali said on Saturday that his wife was shot from inside the U.S. Embassy in the Green Zone while she was praying in their home in the Qadisiyah neighborhood. The incident occurred last night, with the bullet striking her on the second floor of their house. She remains hospitalized after undergoing surgery to remove bullet fragments.
Al-Ghazali stated that he was near his wife at the time of the incident and immediately transported her to Ibn Sina Hospital in Baghdad, where she was taken into surgery. The U.S. Embassy has acknowledged the incident and confirmed that an investigation is underway.
Hasanain Al-Ghazali, the son of the injured woman, told 964media that initially, his mother’s condition was critical, with injuries to her abdomen and thigh caused by bullet shrapnel. “The bullet fragmented inside her body into nine pieces, and seven have been removed,” he said.
“Currently, her condition is somewhat stable compared to last night, but according to doctors, she will not fully recover for at least six months and will require ongoing special treatments,” Hasanain added. He said that the family plans to file a complaint against the U.S. Embassy and pursue all legal actions related to the incident.
