Meeting scheduled with Central Bank authorities

US Treasury official arrives in Baghdad for anti-money laundering meetings

BAGHDAD, September 13 — U.S. Ambassador to Baghdad, Alina Romanowski, announced on Tuesday the arrival of Elizabeth Rosenberg, Assistant Secretary for Terrorist Financing and Financial Crimes at the U.S. Department of the Treasury, to Baghdad.

Rosenberg’s visit is aimed at conducting meetings with government leaders and officials at the Central Bank to address issues related to combating money laundering. This visit coincides with a sharp increase in the exchange rate of the dollar since the end of the previous week, with the exchange rate breaking the 155,000 Iraqi dinar mark on Tuesday. The surge is in response to the recent arrests of several financial companies’ owners who violated the Central Bank’s regulations.
