Alleged speeding by driver

9-year-old child dies in Kirkuk traffic incident

KIRKUK — A nine-year-old boy was killed in a traffic incident Wednesday night in the Askeri neighborhood of Kirkuk, officials said.

The child, who was hit by a vehicle around 11:30 p.m., died from injuries sustained in the crash. Following the incident, the driver was detained by police, authorities reported.

The boy’s body was subsequently moved to the forensic department in Kirkuk. A forensic source told 964media that the impact caused the child to strike the vehicle’s front windshield, leading to severe bleeding.

Despite immediate efforts to transport him to a hospital, he was pronounced dead upon arrival.

Ahmed Daham, the child’s uncle, criticized the condition of the area where the accident occurred. “The new street lacks proper signage and has not been asphalted,” Daham said to 964media. “Children often play in the area, and the speeding vehicle caused the fatal accident.”
