Taxi overturns in Sulaymaniyah, underage driver killed
SULAYMANIYAH – A Toyota Corolla taxi overturned on Sunday in Sulaymaniyah, resulting in the death of the driver, who was reported to be younger than 18. The accident occurred when the driver lost control of the vehicle, according to Bahman Abdullah, a spokesperson for the Sulaymaniyah Traffic Police, who spoke with 964media.
“The cause of the accident appears to be due to driver error, leading to a loss of control and the vehicle overturning,” Abdullah said.
Last year, traffic accidents were the leading cause of death in the governorate, with 140 fatalities recorded. The Sulaymaniyah Traffic Directorate noted that traffic incidents accounted for nearly a quarter of the 592 total deaths examined by the directorate’s forensic team. Over 83% of those who died in road accidents were male.
