Suspect arrested for market bombing
TUZ KHURMATU — Early Saturday morning, officials in Khurmatu announced the arrest of a suspect linked to the market bombing during Eid Al-Adha festivities.
The explosion, triggered by an improvised explosive device, occurred on the evening of June 15, 2024, in the bustling Khurmatu Grand Market, injuring five people. According to medical sources, three of the injured remain in critical condition.
Hussein Ali, head of the Khurmatu General Police, detailed the operation in a statement to 964media. “Last night, our forces, in collaboration with intelligence services and the Seventh Battalion of Khurmatu Emergency Forces, conducted a coordinated operation. With the help of surveillance footage, we were able to identify and apprehend the suspect in the Askeri neighborhood,” Ali said.
The suspect, a resident of Suleiman Beg currently living in Tuz Khurmatu’s Askeri neighborhood, was handed over to the intelligence department for further investigation. Authorities have yet to disclose details about the suspect’s motives or the circumstances leading to the attack.
