High-yield and resilient crops
Two new wheat varieties approved for cultivation in Sulaymaniyah
SULAYMANIYAH – The Directorate of Agricultural Research in Sulaymaniyah has sanctioned two new wheat varieties, “Sulaymaniyah 4” and “Bakrajo 2,” expanding the province’s wheat cultivation options to seven varieties.
Approved by the Iraqi Ministry of Agriculture, these varieties are recognized for their robust resistance to diseases, high yield rates, and adaptability to diverse soil conditions.
Zana Mohammed, an official from Sulaymaniyah’s Directorate of Agricultural Research, stated that the approval follows extensive testing since 2017 across various localities in the province.
He said the new additions aim to bolster wheat production and agricultural resilience.
Currently, five additional wheat varieties await approval in Baghdad, with their potential adoption poised to further enhance agricultural diversity in Sulaymaniyah.
