Tuz Khurmatu residents face severe water shortage
TUZ KHURMATU — Residents of several neighborhoods in Tuz Khurmatu, Salah Al-Din governorate, are facing a severe water shortage that has persisted for weeks.
Many neighborhoods have been without water, with some areas receiving water only once in the past two weeks and others getting water once a week. One resident reported that they haven’t had drinking water for 15 days.
Residents of the Komari neighborhood told 964media that despite promises from the city administration to resolve the issue, no action has been taken. “We don’t know when they will take action,” one resident said, noting that they used to receive water every two days.
Some families have had to leave Tuz Khurmatu and return to their villages due to the lack of water. “We can’t afford to buy water every day,” one resident explained.
Ismail Mustafa, director of the Tuz Khurmatu Water Department, told 964media that the water shortage is due to insufficient electricity supply to the water distribution station, causing the pumps and machinery to malfunction.
“Once the electricity shortage is resolved, the water supply station will return to normal, and the water shortage will be addressed. Efforts are ongoing to find a solution,” Mustafa said.
