Strong winds break 100 trees in Erbil parks

ERBIL — A severe windstorm last night broke 100 trees in Erbil’s parks and gardens, causing significant damage.

Rebin Ahmed, director of Erbil’s park department, told 964media, “Due to the severe storm last night, 100 trees in Erbil’s parks and gardens were broken, with several others damaged.” He added that completely broken trees will be removed and replaced, while partially damaged trees will be treated and preserved.

In Sulaymaniyah, a spokesperson for the city’s park department told 964media that while no specific numbers were available yet, they would “determine the exact number of damaged trees within the next two days.”

The powerful winds swept across the Kurdistan Region last night, reaching Erbil by early morning and causing extensive damage to trees and plants in the parks.

Erbil is home to seven large parks and 450 medium and small gardens, with a total green space percentage currently at 19.5%.
