Suspected arson at Darbandikhan Cemetery

DARBANDIKHAN — Three separate fires have been reported over the past week at the Kani Sard Cemetery in Sulaymaniyah’s Darbandikhan district. Authorities suspect arson in these incidents and are working to apprehend those responsible.

The fires have caused damage, burning several trees, plants, and shrubs within the cemetery.

Sulaiman Mohammed, the qaymaqam of Darbandikhan, told 964media, “We do not yet know who is behind these fires in the cemetery, but we are determined to identify and question those responsible.”

He added, “The individuals responsible for these acts could face multiple charges, including destruction of the cemetery, environmental damage, and burning trees and plants.”
