The Program Program
Kurdish sitcom revived 15 years since ending sun
SULAYMANIYAH — Popular Kurdish satirical sitcom “Barnamay Barnama,” is heading back to the silver screen, with showrunner and scriptwriter Sherko Abdullah confirming the show’s imminent return to television on Kurdsat.
The show will air bi-monthly, at the beginning and middle of the month, with each episode lasting half an hour. While specific broadcast dates are not yet confirmed, the first episode is expected to air soon.
“Barnamay Barnama,” which translates to “The Program Program,” will maintain its comedic style, similar to its previous format, according to Abdullah.
The show, which went off the air 15 years ago, made a one-off return earlier this year for the special slate of programming celebrating the Kurdsat’s 24th anniversary. This special episode featured many former cast members and received positive viewer feedback, prompting calls for a full revival.
Some actors may not participate due to health issues or existing contracts with other channels, though the majority will return. “We’re hopeful that some who can’t join now will return later,” said Abdullah.
Early seasons of the sitcom delivered targeted comedic content, taking a satirical stance on various societal and governmental issues in the Kurdistan Region.
The upcoming season of “Barnamay Barnama” is set to continue its critical and humorous approach to addressing local phenomena, engaging its audience with witty commentary.
Abdullah added, “We hope it meets viewers’ expectations.”
