Several fatalities from drowning and fall
Tragic incidents claim lives across Kurdistan
NEWSROOM – Several tragic incidents occurred across the Kurdistan region today, resulting in four fatalities from drowning and a fall, with an additional body recovered from a water fall under unknown circumstances.
In the village of Chamrge, Erbil, a 15-year-old boy drowned while swimming around 4:00 PM, as reported by Erbil Civil Defense. Rescue teams from the Khabat district’s underwater unit promptly responded to recover the teenager’s body from the water.
Another incident occurred this morning at Mahnaz Park in the Taqtaq area, where a Kirkuk resident born in 1993 tragically drowned while visiting the park for recreational purposes. Colonel Goran Ahmed Smaqay, director of Civil Defense in Koya, confirmed the incident, which took place around 9:00 AM.
In Sulaymaniyah’s Kalar district, a 20-year-old man drowned while swimming in the Sirwan River this Friday afternoon, according to Ibrahim Mohammed, spokesperson for Garmian Civil Defense. As of 6:00 PM, his body has not been recovered.
Meanwhile, in Halabja, the body of an unidentified man, estimated to be between 35 and 45 years old, was found in the waters of Ahmad Awa resort near the sub-district of Khurmal. Barzan Osman, spokesperson for the Halabja Police Directorate, confirmed the discovery and urged anyone missing a relative or friend to contact the Halabja forensic office for assistance in identification.
According to reports from 964media, the retrieved body showed no clothing or visible signs of violence such as wounds or bruises. While investigations are ongoing, local authorities have not received recent reports of missing persons in the area.
It is speculated that the individual may have drowned earlier in the day. The circumstances surrounding this incident are currently under further investigation by authorities.
In the district of Mawat, north of Sulaymaniyah, a 38-year-old man tragically lost his life after falling from a mountain while collecting spring flowers in the Gmo mountains. Kamran Hassan, the district commissioner of Mawat, told 964media, “This Friday, the young man ventured into the mountains but fell and succumbed to his injuries.”
The victim was promptly located, and his body was transported to Mawat Hospital. Plans are underway to transfer him to the forensic department in Sulaymaniyah for further examination.
