Suspects apprehended in Dhi Qar and Maysan

Drug trafficking and terrorism suspects arrested in southern Iraq

DHI QAR, August 30 – The General Directorate of Intelligence and Security announced on Wednesday that forces had arrested a drug trafficker with one kilogram of heroin in Dhi Qar governorate, and apprehended a terrorism suspect in Maysan.

A statement from the Ministry of Defense received by 964 read:

“The General Directorate of Intelligence and Security apprehended a drug trafficker with a kilogram of heroin in Dhi Qar governorate, and arrested a terrorism suspect in Maysan.

Units from the Intelligence and Security Directorate in Maysan, under the General Directorate of Intelligence and Security at the Ministry of Defense, arrested one of the individuals wanted by the judiciary under the provisions of Article (1/4) for terrorism. He was apprehended in Mu’minah district and handed over to the relevant authorities.

Separately, based on precise intelligence information, units of the Intelligence and Security Directorate in Dhi Qar, also under the same General Directorate, managed to capture a drug dealer and distributor along with one kilogram of the narcotic substance heroin. The arrest was carried out through a well-planned ambush coordinated by the directorate in collaboration with the Drugs Affairs Department on the road between Maysan province and the Rifa’i district. After being presented to the judiciary, he was detained according to the provisions of Article (1/4) for terrorism.”
