Romanowski hosts Baghdad council members
U.S. Embassy iftar celebrates Iraqi women in politics
BAGHDAD — United States Ambassador to Iraq Alina Romanowski hosted an iftar dinner for the women of Baghdad’s provincial council on Sunday. Held at the U.S. Embassy in the Iraqi capital, the event celebrated women in Iraqi politics.
Romanowski posted to X (formerly Twitter), stating: “Honored to host Baghdad’s new provincial councilwomen for an iftar. When women have a seat at the table where decisions are being made, they advance political participation & leadership for all. Looking forward to promoting prosperity & diversity through our #360degreePartnership.”
The event came as Muslim organizations in the U.S. have issued calls for a boycott of the White House’s annual Ramadan dinner in response to Washington’s support of Israeli attacks on Gaza.
Speaking to Voice of America, Robert McCaw, head of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) government relations department, said, “This decision is due to the administration’s failure to address Muslim community demands for an immediate and permanent ceasefire.”
