Basra gears up to host World Cup qualifier match

BASRA — Basra Sports City is putting the final touches on preparations to host the upcoming World Cup qualifier match between Iraq and the Philippines on March 21 at Al-Nakheel Stadium, with tickets now on sale at designated locations across Basra.

“We’ve completed all preparations to welcome the Iraqi and Philippine national teams,” said Lotfi Al-Jaza’iri, director of Basra Sports City, a sprawling $550 million entertainment and sports complex.

“The pitch, stands, and gates are all ready. This match will showcase various organizational improvements, including numbered seating as indicated on tickets for a smoother fan experience,” he added.

Al-Manara Marketing Company, responsible for the event’s marketing, has developed a comprehensive plan for fan entry through designated gates throughout the stadium.

“Ticket sales began two days ago,” said Adel Ghafouri, director of Al-Manara Sports Marketing Company.

“We have 24 direct sale points in Basra and 10 additional centers in other provinces. Entry will be facilitated through newly installed electronic gates. Ticket prices remain unchanged from the official rate and are available in four categories across different sections. We encourage fans to cooperate and ensure a successful match that reflects positively on Iraq,” Ghafouri added.
