Over 243,000 visitors enter Iraq for Arbaeen commemorations

BAGHDAD, August 26 — The Ministry of Interior announced on Saturday that 243,679 visitors entered into Iraqi territory via airports and land border crossings to commemorate the Arbaeen pilgrimage.

In a statement received by 964, the Ministry said it would continue to coordinate efforts of the Supreme Security Committee, which is tasked with securing the Arbaeen pilgrimage.

Security forces have been deployed in all regions and routes that pilgrims take towards the holy city of Karbala, the statement said, adding that the operation involves comprehensive efforts among the government’s intelligence, security, and service agencies.

Authorities have reportedly facilitated the entry of visitors through all the country’s border crossings. The total number of visitors since the start of the pilgrimage is estimated at 703,123.
