English Tower project stalled
Erbil residents protest incomplete housing project in front of council of ministers
ERBIL– A crowd assembled in front of the Council of Ministers in Erbil to voice their frustration with the stalled English Tower housing project. Located in the English Village and slated to include 960 apartments, the project was expected to be completed by the end of 2023. However, construction remains unfinished.
An upset resident, in conversation with 964media, shared, “We’re facing the issue of an ongoing, incomplete project, despite having signed contracts almost three years ago. We’ve invested in apartments here, marking our second protest after paying substantial amounts. The completion of the apartments is still pending, and the timeline for resolution is unclear.”
This resident further highlighted concerns regarding the project owner’s current status in the Kurdistan Region, stating, “Together with my friends, we’ve bought over thirty apartments in this project. While I’m unsure of the exact total investment, it surpasses $700,000. At the time of purchase, the cost was about $1,030 per square meter. Now, due to the downturn in the real estate market, the value has dropped to less than $800 per square meter.”
