Two arrests made

Seizure of smuggled medicines in Said Sadiq

SULAYMANIYAH – Authorities in the Said Sadiq district have intercepted a large shipment of smuggled medications being transported into the Kurdistan Region by truck, resulting in the arrest of two individuals connected to the smuggling operation.

Sarkawt Ahmad, a spokesperson for the Sulaymaniyah Police, told 964media that the medications, which originated from outside the Kurdistan Region and entered through an unnamed gate, were intended for distribution in Said Sadiq.

The suspects, aged between 29 and 40, are being held under Article 50 of the Pharmacy Law and are currently under investigation.

To combat counterfeit medications, the Kurdistan Medicines Control Agency has introduced anti-counterfeit magnet devices in pharmacies. These devices allow pharmacists to verify the authenticity of medications, thereby protecting the public from fraudulent drugs.

In the Kurdistan region, nearly 11,000 medications have been authenticated for quality and authenticity using a unique sticker system that features the seal and approval of the regulatory agency on each package.

The verification process involves placing the magnet near a black square on the sticker and observing a color change, indicating authenticity. Additionally, scanning the QR code on the sticker provides further information.
