Meeting with Biden unlikely

Sudani to lead delegation at UN General Assembly

BAGHDAD, August 23 — Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein stated that Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ Al-Sudani will lead the Iraqi delegation at the United Nations General Assembly meetings in New York this September. He mentioned that Al-Sudani will deliver a speech and meet with a significant number of world leaders.

Hussein shared in an interview with journalist Hisham Ali that he does not believe Al-Sudani will meet with U.S. President Joseph Biden.

The Kata’ib Sayyid al-Shuhada militant group’s spokesperson Kazem Al-Fartousi revealed on August 13 in an interview with journalist Laith Al-Jazairi that repeated requests by the Iraqi government for Al-Sudani to visit the United States have been consistently denied by Washington.

The claims followed a Ministry of Defense delegation’s visit to Washington to meet with U.S. counterparts from the Pentagon on security collaborations in Iraq. Al-Sudani was not present for the bilateral talks.
