Suspected drone strike in Kalar leaves one dead
KALAR – A drone attack on a residential area in Kalar has resulted in one death, authorities confirmed Wednesday.
The explosion, which targeted a house in an area for internally displaced persons, is under investigation by local and security officials seeking to determine the nature and origin of the attack.
Sources close to the security forces told to 964media that the attack was carried out via drone, although further specifics regarding the assault have yet to be formally announced.
The residence hit is situated in the Shahidan neighborhood, a part of the broader Garmian region.
A senior official within the Garmian police and additional security sources claim that the deceased was a member of the Kurdistan Society Freedom Movement from Duhok.
Contrary to initial reports suggesting the targeted location served as a headquarters, a member of the Freedom Movement – which has ideological links to the PKK – clarified to 964 that the bombed site was temporary lodging for its members, specifying that the individual killed was not a local resident of Garmiyan.
The identity of the victim has not been disclosed as the investigation continues. Authorities have remained tight-lipped about the potential motives behind the drone strike. In the past, Turkey has regularly attacked targets in the Kurdistan Region it claims have links to the PKK.
