On the 10th anniversary of 'Competent Jihad' fatwa by Sistani
Qais Al-Khazali vows to continue resistance, building of the state
BAGHDAD — Qais Al-Khazali, the Secretary-General of Asa’ib Ahl al-Haq, today, Sunday, commemorated the tenth Hijri anniversary of the Fatwa of “Jihad Kifai” [Competent Jihad] issued by Grand Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani, on 13 June 2014. The fatwa, which called upon his followers to rise in defense of Iraq against ISIS laid the foundation for the formation of the Popular Mobilization Force, PMF. Al-Khazali pledged to continue “the resistance” movement and reflected in a statement on the monumental impact of the fatwa:
Ten years have passed since the Fatwa of Jihad Kifai, a decree that served as a great lesson in sacrifice and redemption. This fatwa prompted the noble children of our nation to respond, changing the course of events, transforming defeat into victory, and establishing the sacred Popular Mobilization Forces with their sacrifices, achievements, and blood. This fatwa will continue to inspire the brave who have drawn lessons and stories from it, serving as a compass of victory for future generations.
On this blessed anniversary, we reiterate our commitment to our people to remain steadfast in resistance and to complete the journey towards achieving the goal for which martyrs and wounded sacrificed. That goal is the building of the state, enhancing its capabilities, and ensuring security, prosperity, and progress for all citizens.
