Drug dealer gets death sentence for growing marijuana on rooftop

BAGHDAD, August 21 — The Rusafa Criminal Court issued a death sentence on Monday for a drug dealer convicted for growing marijuana plants on the rooftop of his house with the intent of distribution.

The judiciary’s press office released a statement which said:

The Rusafa Criminal Court has issued a death sentence against a drug dealer for the crime of cultivating narcotic marijuana plants on his property. The accused was cultivating drugs on the roof of his house with the intention of trafficking. He was caught in possession of 750 grams of hashish and 900 grams of the controlled substance crystal [meth].

The verdict was delivered based on the provisions of Article 27/3 of the Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law, Law No. 50 of 2017.
