Crackdown on unauthorized border crossings

Wasit police seize thousands of weapons

WASIT – The Wasit Governorate Police Command has showcased a collection of weapons seized in the last quarter. Police Chief Major General Mohammed Qasim Al-Fahd revealed the execution of over 6,000 arrest warrants and a marked decline in unauthorized crossings from Iran.

During a press briefing covered by 964media, Al-Fahd shared insights into the police strategy: “Over a span of three months, our teams confiscated 1,827 weapons through patrols and unexpected checkpoints, deliberately avoiding residential raids to preserve the security equilibrium in Wasit and honor the autonomy of local community leaders.”

The police chief highlighted the area’s security and the ongoing partnership between the community heads and law enforcement. “Our officers have detained 6,663 suspects on a variety of charges, including roughly 380 captured based on existing warrants. We are actively pursuing 114 warrants for individuals believed to be outside Wasit, utilizing coordinated intelligence to track these fugitives,” Al-Fahd stated.

The region, once a hotspot for unauthorized daily entries ranging between 100 and 200 from the border with Iran, has seen a significant decrease in such incidents.
