'A blatant assassination'
Iraqi spox condemns latest U.S. airstrike against Kataib Hezbollah figure in Baghdad
BAGHDAD – The spokesperson for the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Major General Yahya Rasool Abdullah, issued a statement on Thursday condemning a U.S. airstrike in Baghdad the previous night that targeted and killed Abu Baqir Al-Saadi, a prominent figure in the Kataib Hezbollah group and Islamic Resistance.
Abdullah called the attack an assassination that disregarded civilian life and international law.
The strike against Al-Saadi was the latest in a series of retaliatory strikes between the U.S. and Iran-aligned armed groups in the region, and a response to a Jan. 29 strike on a base in Jordan that killed three U.S. service members.
