Suspect arrested in Baghdad on charges related to five kidnapping cases
BAGHDAD — Police in Baghdad’s Rusafa area arrested a suspect wanted in connection with multiple kidnapping incidents, according to a statement from the Baghdad Rusafa Police Command.
The arrest was carried out on Sunday by the Sha’ab Anti-Crime Office under the supervision of the Rusafa Police Commander. Authorities said the operation followed information indicating the suspect’s presence in the area. A task force was formed, and the individual was apprehended at the reported location.
During interrogation, the suspect “confessed” to carrying out five kidnappings across different areas. He has been placed in detention pending completion of legal procedures.
In last weeks and months, several kidnappings cases have been recorded across Iraqi governorates. On March 11, a child abducted from the Al-Askari neighborhood in Samawah has been rescued by Iraqi security forces in Anbar, one day after he went missing.
Earlier in January, Iraqi federal police rescued a kidnapped woman and arrested her captor during an operation in southern Baghdad.
