Iraqi federal police rescue kidnapped woman in southern Baghdad raid

BAGHDAD — Iraqi federal police rescued a kidnapped woman and arrested her captor during an operation in southern Baghdad, security officials said Sunday.

The operation, conducted jointly by the Federal Police Division and the Dora Anti-Crime Office, culminated in a raid on a house in the Al-Sihha neighborhood of the Dora area, Baghdad.

“After receiving precise intelligence about a kidnapping case, a task force was immediately formed and deployed to the specified location,” the Iraqi Ministry of Interior said in a statement.

The suspect was taken into custody and transferred to relevant authorities for legal proceedings. Officials did not release the names of the victim or the suspect.

This incident follows several recent kidnapping cases. Iraqi security forces reported on last Wednesday that they rescued a kidnapping victim and arrested two suspects in Baghdad.

Additionally, security forces rescued another kidnapping victim on January 4, 2025, after setting up an ambush in the Kamaliya district of eastern Baghdad. The operation also led to the confiscation of weapons and a vehicle used in the crime.

On Jan 4, 2025,  police in Babil governorate reported rescuing a kidnapped girl and apprehending her captors in a neighboring governorate.
