Diwaniyah council elects new governor amid tensions
DIWANIYAH, Iraq — The Al-Diwaniyah Provincial Council witnessed a tense session on Wednesday, culminating in the election of its new governor and council president amidst internal disagreements among members.
Abbas Al-Zamili of the Badr bloc emerged as the newly elected governor of Al-Diwaniyah.
Concurrently, Mohammed Shakhir of the State of Law coalition was appointed as the president of the council.
In addition to these key positions, the council also confirmed Saif Al-Naili, another member of the State of Law coalition, as the first deputy president of the council.
