Waste disposal crisis resolved in Tin Neighborhood of Tuz Khurmatu
TUZ KHURMATU, February 4– The waste and debris issue that plagued the residents of the Tin neighborhood in Tuz Khurmatu has been addressed, according to the head of the municipality. The resolution follows complaints from the community about the unpleasant odor and health concerns arising from improperly disposed waste near their homes.
Hussein Jalal, a local resident, expressed relief to 964media, stating that for nearly a year, municipal workers and some citizens have been dumping waste and debris outside the city limits. The designated dumping site was too close to the Tin neighborhood, causing discomfort and health concerns among its residents due to the foul smell that engulfed the area nightly.
Maari Rashid, the head of Khurmatu Municipality, acknowledged the issue to 964media, stating, “A municipal team has undertaken the removing of the accumulated waste and the cleanup of the site.”
Rashid emphasized the legitimacy of the residents’ complaints, given the proximity of the waste dumping site to their neighborhood and its impact on their daily lives.
Regarding a permanent solution, Rashid mentioned, “The practice of dumping waste in that area is now prohibited. We must identify an appropriate and distant location for waste disposal and ensure it is incinerated to prevent any future health hazards to the residents of the area and protect their well-being.”
