PM witness at signing of Baghdad residential project contract
BAGHDAD, January 31 — Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ Al-Sudani presided on Wednesday, over the signing of a contract for the Ali Al-Wardi Residential City project in Baghdad. The contract was signed between the Minister of Construction and Housing, Bangen Rekani, and the CEO of ORA Real Estate Development Company.

Prime Minister Mohammed S. Al-Sudani attended the signing of the contract for the new Ali Al-Wardi Residential City project. The contract was signed by the Minister of Construction, Housing, Municipalities, and Public Works, along with Mr. Naguib Sawiris, the director of ORA Real Estate Development Company. This project is the largest among the five new residential city projects in their initial phase, prioritized by the government program for implementation.
During the signing ceremony, the Prime Minister highlighted the government’s strategy to address the housing crisis by establishing cities with adequate infrastructure and thousands of housing units catering to various segments of Iraqi society. Emphasizing that this project is the first of its kind in Iraq’s history in terms of size and capacity, he noted its alignment with the government program’s commitment to finding lasting solutions to the housing crisis.
The Prime Minister commended the performance of the team in the Ministry of Housing and Reconstruction, the Baghdad Municipality, and other relevant departments. He affirmed that the investment environment in Iraq is now well-prepared and attractive.
For his part, Mr. Sawiris emphasized that partnering with Iraq to develop Ali Al-Wardi Residential City marks a pivotal moment in collaboration, sharing a pioneering and innovative vision for constructing residential cities that balance environmental and population needs.
The new city project, named after the late Iraqi author and intellectual Dr. Ali Al-Wardi, spans 61 million square meters to the southeast of Baghdad. It aims to offer 120,000 housing units, alongside urban amenities, green spaces, and smart city technologies, applying advanced standards in sustainability and environmental preservation.
Contracting with Mr. Sawiris and Ora Company aligns with the government’s commitment to establishing successful partnerships with renowned companies and experienced businessmen at regional and international levels, for they are known for their quality implementation and expertise in real estate development.
