Kurdistan Region to host CONIFA World Football Cup

ERBIL, January 29 — The Kurdistan General Directorate of Sports has solidified its plans to host the CONIFA World Football Cup.

Sardar Ismail, Kurdistan’s General Director of Sports, informed 964media, “After productive discussions with the Kurdistan Football Federation, we are fully supported and coordinated by the government to host the CONIFA Cup.”

Addressing the meeting’s focus, Ismail mentioned tackling various challenges and ensuring all necessary resources are available for the event.

The CONIFA World Football Cup, featuring teams from FIFA-unaffiliated regions and nations, is scheduled for this summer in Kurdistan.

Kurdistan’s football league will undergo changes this year, with matches scheduled twice weekly to hasten the season and better prepare the team for the CONIFA tournament.

Founded in 2014 and succeeding the Viva World Cup, the CONIFA World Football Cup represents teams from non-FIFA regions. Kurdistan, which won and hosted the Viva World Cup in 2012, is gearing up to host this year’s edition of its de facto successor, the CONIFA World Football Cup.
