Civilian home in Mawat’s Galala village bombed in early morning airstrike

MAWAT, January 29 – An airstrike targeted and destroyed a civilian home in the village of Galala, in Sulaymaniyah’s Mawat district early Monday.

Kamran Hassan, a district official, told 964media the incident occurred at 1:00 a.m.

“There were no casualties as the family was not in the house at the time,” Hassan said.

The family had reportedly traveled to Sulaymaniyah city. Located a few hundred meters from the village’s center, the home reportedly belongs to Saleh Rasul, a civilian known to the local community as a peaceful and non-combatant resident, Hassan added.

Kamran Mala Osman, a member of the Community Peacemaker Teams (CPT) organization, confirmed to 964media that the bombing was conducted via military aircraft.

This airstrike comes amidst reports of continued military aircraft activity over the Pshdar, Sharbazher, and Balakayati area the previous night.

The recent increase in military activity in the region has raised concerns among the local population.
