Basra and Dhi Qar at 46°C with the north in the 30s

BAGHDAD — Basra and Dhi Qar are forecast at 46°C on Tuesday while six northern and western governorates stay in the 30s, the Iraqi Meteorological Organization and Seismology said.

Duhok and Sulaymaniyah are expected at 36°C, Erbil and Kirkuk 38°C, and Nineveh and Anbar 39°C. Further south, Salah al-Din is forecast at 41°C, Baghdad and Diyala 42°C, Karbala, Babil and Diwaniyah 43°C, Wasit, Najaf and Muthanna 44°C and Maysan 45°C.

Skies will be clear with temperatures close to Monday’s. Northwesterly winds are forecast at 10 to 20 km/h, with visibility of 8 to 10 km falling to 5 to 7 km in the morning because of haze and raised pollutant levels.

Wednesday stays clear with highs from 35°C in Duhok to 46°C in Basra and Dhi Qar, before a slight rise in the centre and south on Thursday and cloud in the north. Clear conditions continue through Saturday, when northwesterly winds could strengthen to about 30 km/h in parts of the southeast and raise blowing dust.
