‘Activities that violate the law’: drones and munitions seized in Maysan

MAYSAN — Military intelligence units seized drones, mortar rounds, rockets and grenades in Maysan on Saturday, the Military Intelligence Directorate said, without reporting any arrests.

Intelligence and security units from the 22nd Commando Division acted on intelligence, the directorate said, adding that legal measures had been taken over the seized items and that it would continue pursuing activities that violate the law. It did not say where in the governorate the operation took place, how many drones were taken, or whether anyone was linked to an armed faction.

It follows a run of drone seizures. Security forces took more than 20 locally made drones in Baghdad’s Rusafa area on Aug. 13 and arrested four people accused of trading them outside approved regulations, days after intelligence and counterterrorism forces dismantled a network planning attacks with explosive-laden drones.
