Judicial Council says arrest warrant for Sudani circulating online is forged

BAGHDAD — Iraq’s Supreme Judicial Council denied Tuesday that it had issued an arrest warrant for former Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani, saying a document circulating on social media was forged.

The council’s media center said the warrant, attributed to the Karkh First Investigation Court, had been shared online. “The media center would like to clarify, after contacting the court to which the warrant was attributed, that it is forged and incorrect,” the statement said. The council warned that those responsible for spreading it would be pursued legally.

Al-Sudani, leader of the Reconstruction and Development Coalition, served as prime minister from October 2022 until May 2026.
