Anbar education chief rejects claims of ‘1,180 ghost schools’

ANBAR — Anbar’s director general of education, Nafea Al-Dulaimi, on Tuesday rejected reports circulating on social media alleging the existence of 1,180 “ghost schools” in the governorate, describing the claims as “false” and lacking evidence.

The allegations, which have been by local social media platforms, claimed that salaries and allowances were being paid to 1,180 schools that exist only on paper and not in reality.

In a statement, Al-Dulaimi said reports about so-called “ghost schools” in Anbar were “news devoid of truth” and “do not rely on any evidence.”

He said the claims represent “an attempt to distort facts,” adding that all educational institutions in the governorate operate “within the legal and administrative frameworks approved by the Ministry of Education.”

Al-Dulaimi also called on media outlets to verify information before publication and rely on official sources.

“We urge media organizations to exercise accuracy in transmitting information and rely exclusively on statements issued by official authorities,” he said, warning against “rumors or unreliable news circulated on social media.”

He added that the directorate’s offices remain open to the public “to ensure accurate information reaches public opinion.”
