Iraqi foreign ministry condemns Iranian strikes on Jordan, Bahrain and Kuwait
BAGHDAD — Iraq’s Foreign Ministry condemned Iranian strikes on Jordan, Bahrain and Kuwait on Thursday, expressing regret over the renewed escalation and warning of the risk of the region sliding into a broader confrontation.
“We strongly condemn the attacks that targeted the territories of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, the Kingdom of Bahrain, and the State of Kuwait,” the ministry said, calling on all parties to exercise restraint and adopt diplomatic means to resolve ongoing crises.
The ministry emphasized that “the stability of Arab and neighboring countries is an important part of Iraq’s stability and national security,” and warned of “the risks of the region sliding into a broader confrontation, with serious negative consequences for regional and international security.”
The condemnation follows a second consecutive night of exchanges between Iran and the United States. The IRGC said it launched drone strikes on U.S. bases in Bahrain and Kuwait and fired 12 ballistic missiles at the Al-Azraq airbase in Jordan in retaliation for U.S. strikes on Iranian air defense sites, ports and islands near the Strait of Hormuz. Jordan said its air defenses intercepted 20 incoming missiles, while Bahrain reported a minor injury and property damage from shrapnel.
