Man stabbed to death at Diyala cemetery on Eid visit to relative’s grave

DIYALA — A young man was killed Thursday after being stabbed during a fight at the Al-Dujma cemetery in Khalis district, on the second day of Eid al-Adha, according to a security source.

The victim had been visiting a relative’s grave with his family when an altercation broke out and escalated to the use of a knife, the source told 964media. Security forces arrested the suspect within an hour under the direct supervision of Diyala Police Commander Mohammed Kazem Atiyah, who directed the formation of a joint task force including the directors of Khalis Police Department and Diyala Crime Control Department.

“The suspect explicitly confessed during preliminary investigations to killing the victim due to disputes between them,” police said. Authorities seized the knife and tracked the suspect’s movements by motorcycle during the commission of the crime. Legal measures have been taken under Article 406 of the Iraqi Penal Code relating to murder.
