Dana Gas resumes production at Khor Mor field after weeks-long suspension

ERBIL — Dana Gas has resumed gas production at the Khor Mor field in Sulaymaniyah governorate, the company announced Monday, ending a suspension that had lasted since the outbreak of regional conflict on Feb. 28.

The company said it handled the resumption “carefully in coordination with the Kurdistan Regional Government,” with staff safety the primary consideration throughout. Prior to the suspension, the field was producing more than 750 million standard cubic feet of gas per day through its KM-250 project, along with around 1,500 tons of liquefied petroleum gas and 15,000 barrels of condensate daily.

Khor Mor is the main fuel source for power plants across the Kurdistan Region. The suspension reduced electricity generation capacity by between 2,500 and 3,000 megawatts, triggering widespread outages across Erbil, Sulaymaniyah and surrounding areas that forced residents to rely on private generators. The field has also faced repeated attacks in recent years, including a drone strike in November 2025 that damaged facilities and disrupted gas supplies.
