Basra, Maysan and Dhi Qar reach 47°C as scorching temperatures endure

BAGHDAD — Basra, Maysan and Dhi Qar reached 47°C on Wednesday as temperatures edged up in the south, while the centre and north held near previous levels, the Iraqi Meteorological Organization and Seismology said.

Baghdad recorded 43°C and Duhok 37°C. Skies were clear, with light to moderate northwesterly winds of 10 to 20 km/h gusting to 35 km/h in the west and raising light dust in desert areas, and calm or variable winds in the east of the north. Visibility was 8 to 10 km across most of the country, falling to 5 to 7 km in dusty desert areas.

Temperatures ease slightly on Thursday, with Baghdad at 41°C and Basra 46°C, and stay stable through the weekend.
