Four killed in 196 Iranian and Iraqi militia attacks on Kurdistan Region, says rights group
KURDISTAN REGION — At least 196 drone, missile and rocket attacks have struck the Kurdistan Region since the start of the war on Feb. 28, killing four people and injuring 19 others, according to a monitoring report released Sunday by Community Peacemaker Teams – Iraqi Kurdistan, an American human rights organization.
The IRGC and affiliated armed groups in Iraq carried out the attacks using suicide drones, ballistic missiles and rockets, targeting the U.S. Consulate General in Erbil, military bases, Iranian Kurdish opposition headquarters and refugee camps, Erbil International Airport, oil fields, hotels, residential areas, telecommunications towers and Peshmerga sites, the report said.
Of the 196 attacks, 162 struck Erbil governorate, accounting for more than 82 percent of the total. Sulaymaniyah recorded 26 attacks, Duhok five and Halabja three.
Breaking down the targets, 58 attacks hit the U.S. Consulate and U.S.-linked military facilities, 43 targeted Iranian Kurdish opposition party headquarters, and the remaining 95 struck hotels, residential neighborhoods, Peshmerga sites, oil facilities and other civilian areas.
Of the 23 casualties, 14 were members of Iranian Kurdish opposition parties targeted at their headquarters and camps, six were Kurdistan security force members “who had no connection to the war between the U.S.-Israel and Iran,” and three were civilians.
CPT-IK called on all parties to take “immediate steps toward de-escalation and the protection of civilians” and said it would continue monitoring and documenting the impact on the Kurdistan Region’s civilian population.
