Asayish officers, drug suspect killed in Shekhan clash
DUHOK — Two Asayish officers were killed and three others wounded during an attempted arrest of a drug trafficking suspect in Shekhan district, officials said Tuesday. The suspect was also killed.
The confrontation took place late Monday outside Roz Hall in Shekhan, where a wedding was underway. A local official told 964media the suspect, wanted on drug charges, had been inside the celebration and appeared intoxicated.
“When he left the hall, Asayish forces attempted to arrest him. Once he realized they were there to detain him, he confronted the officers and opened fire,” the official said.
The exchange left two officers dead and three injured. Security forces returned fire, killing the suspect, identified as a trafficker from Qasrok subdistrict.
Authorities said the arrest warrant was issued on drug trafficking charges.
