Statues vandalized in Tuz Khurmatu
TUZ KHURMATU – Several statues and fountains in Salah Al-Din’s Tuz Khurmatu district were vandalized on Friday night, leading to an investigation launched by local authorities on Saturday morning.
The incident targeted bird statues in the square of the Rzgari Neighborhood, part of ongoing beautification efforts in the district. “Some statues and fountains in the streets of the district were made by generous individuals to enhance the city’s appearance. It is concerning that some people are trying to ruin these efforts, damaging and destroying these structures overnight,” Mahmoud Hameed, a resident of Rzgari, told 964media.
Mar’i Rashid, the head of Tuz Khurmatu Municipality, detailed the steps being taken in response to the vandalism. “We have started investigating and identifying those responsible. We plan to install surveillance cameras near parks and gardens where many of our statues and fountains are located,” Rashid stated.
He also called on the public to help prevent such vandalism. “If anyone sees such acts of vandalism or people attempting to damage public places, they should notify us immediately so that the municipality can take action and hand the perpetrators over to the police,” Rashid added.
Rashid further indicated that the municipality intends to create more sculptures and fountains throughout the district to continue enhancing its aesthetic appeal.
This marks the fourth instance of vandalism targeting city square statues and garden fountains, alongside recent disruptions where newly planted trees were uprooted.
